This week, we are delighted to present, as our Private View of the Week, a ravishing drawing by Giovanni Battista Tiepolo, one of the supreme masters of the Venetian eighteenth century. In a few strokes of pen and brown wash, Tiepolo conjures two figures seen da sotto in su, suspended in space as if already destined for the luminous heights of a frescoed ceiling. Nothing is forced, nothing is fixed: drapery, bodies and light seem to appear before our eyes with astonishing freedom.
