This week, we are delighted to present, as our Private View of the Week, an important rediscovery by Simon Guillebault (1636–1708), a French academic painter of the late seventeenth century. Depicting Venus Presenting Her Arms to Aeneas, this large oval canvas is particularly remarkable: while Guillebault is chiefly known for religious works, this appears to be the first mythological painting by the artist to have been identified.
