This week, we are delighted to present a fascinating Renaissance drawing attributed to Biagio Pupini: Two Captives Seated on Either Side of a Trophy of Arms, circa 1535. Executed in pen, brown wash and white heightening on prepared paper, this highly finished sheet evokes the grandeur of a Roman chiaroscuro façade or an antique relief. Formerly attributed to Giovan Francesco Penni, it finds compelling parallels within Pupini’s graphic œuvre and his fascination with the inventions of Polidoro da Caravaggio.
