This week, we are pleased to present a rare and unpublished chiaroscuro portrait by Benedetto Caliari (Verone, 1538 - 1598, Venice), younger brother of Paolo Veronese. Executed with remarkable finesse, the sheet illustrates the refined use of white heightening on prepared paper that characterises the most admired works of the Veronese circle.
