LA SÉLECTION · N° 34
3 mai 2026

This week, we are pleased to present, as our Private View of the Week, a refined English watercolour from the late nineteenth century, depicting a young artist holding her brushes. With quiet assurance, the sitter turns towards the viewer, embodying a new generation of women artists emerging in Britain at this pivotal moment. Beyond its immediate charm, the work reflects a subtle yet important shift: the affirmation of the professional female painter, confident in her craft and identity. The delicacy of the technique and the harmonious restraint of the palette suggest a highly accomplished, academically trained hand, possibly connected to the Slade School.
